About the Project
L7 Informatics based out of Texas, USA reimagines data intelligence for modern life sciences and healthcare organizations. L7 ESP is an enterprise science platform and workflow engine with modules such as Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS), Electronic Lab Notebook (ELN), etc. The company is continuously adding applications as per industry/user requirements to make its platform a robust one.
The Challenge
Build a proof of concept design for scheduling application to ensure customer buy in, as competitors are offering similar features in their platform.
My Role
-
Plan and conduct user research, benchmarking and competitor analysis
-
Create user stories, personas, user journey mapping
-
Determine information architecture and create sitemaps
-
Translate concepts into user flows, wireframes, mockups and prototypes
-
Conduct usability testing.
My Approach
-
Having little time for the realization of the product I decided that the best way was to implement a fast UX process and gett ing the most information with everything I had within reach
-
I began by completing a Competitive Benchmark for a total of four commonly used applications for task management and scheduling
-
I then created an online survey using Google forms to help me understand the user group and the goals of users.
-
I used the user flow to help me structure what screens I needed to sketch for the first prototype, putting in mind the user’s primary goals
-
I created a visual sitemap in a hierarchical diagram that shows the information architecture of the application. It gives a visual representation of the application's organization and how different sections are linked together
-
I worked on the rough wireframe to decide on the features and functionality
-
Collaborated with product owners, developers and other stakeholders to finalize the initial concept before moving to mid fidelity wireframe
-
After the finalization of the mid fidelity wireframe after few iterations, I worked on the high fidelity functional prototype to test with real users
-
Made changes as per user feedback and other metrics; handed over the designs to engineering team develop the application as per the specification
The Result
-
Better utilization of staff and instruments in diagnostic labs
-
Increased productivity
