L7 ESP UX Enhancement

Improved overall UX of an Enterprise Science Platform (ESP)

This page provides a high-level overview of my role and the outcomes delivered; detailed problem framing, process, and design decisions rationale are intentionally reserved for in-depth discussion.

About the Project

L7 Informatics based out of Texas, USA reimagines data intelligence for modern life sciences and healthcare organizations. L7 ESP is an enterprise science platform and workflow engine with modules such as Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS), Electronic Lab Notebook (ELN), etc.

The Problem

The existing ESP was functional but lacked in usability and overall user experience.

My Role

  • Managing the project and leading UX team, including coordinating communicationbetween team members, assigning tasks, and following up with deadlines and providingsupport to the team

  • Plan and conduct user research, benchmarking and competitor analysis

  • Create user stories, personas, user journey mapping and storyboards

  • Determine information architecture and create sitemaps

  • Translate concepts into user flows, wireframes, and prototypes

  • Conduct usability testing.

My Approach

  • I immersed myself in the day-to-day activities of a junior researcher and senior scientist/researcher in a diagnostic lab environment

  • Mapped each activity and subsequent steps in the existing ESP

  • Determined the pain points and needs of all user types

  • Realized the moment of truth and opportunity areas to improve overall experience of each activity/user flow

  • Narrowed down to 5 themes for UX improvement (Personalization, Communication, Responsive Design, Collaboration, and Community) and worked in that direction

The Result

  • Improved overall UX of an Enterprise Science Platform

  • 75% reduction in time-on-task

  • Increased user satisfaction (NPS score 84%)
